Oar

Intro.

At NewCo: An IAC Incubator, I worked on Oar Health, a telemedicine platform making addiction treatment accessible and stigma-free with FDA-approved medications like naltrexone. I redesigned webpages for clarity and engagement, created social media assets to support the brand, and refined mobile app screens for a seamless, user-focused experience centered on convenience and expert care.

.

The Mission.

Make addiction treatment accessible and approachable

The mission was to make addiction care human, approachable, and stigma-free. A warm, welcoming design with bold visuals and clear layouts makes expert, medication-based treatment feel trustworthy, empowering, and easy to navigate.

.

Pain Points.

  1. Clinical Perception Barrier

  2. Stigma and Accessibility

Traditional addiction platforms often feel cold and clinical, creating an intimidating, unapproachable experience. Combined with stigma, this makes it hard for users to access care confidently and efficiently.

.

The Solution.

Acessibility & Friendliness

We redesigned Oar Health’s website and app to be warm, welcoming, and approachable. Using human-centered visuals, clear layouts, and compassionate messaging, the experience makes expert, medication-based care accessible, easy to navigate, and stigma-free.

.

Research.

Understanding the user with an empathetic outlook

Our research focused on the human side of addiction and what makes treatment approachable. By studying users’ experiences, we uncovered emotional barriers and stigma that prevent care, informing design decisions to make the platform empathetic, accessible, and expert-driven.

.

App Architecture.

Creating a clear path for a simple experience.

A clear information architecture guides users through Oar’s companion app, providing a reliable, easy-to-use, and scalable experience that combines expert guidance with accessible, stigma-free care.

.

Purpose.

An app that acts as a treatment mentor

Oar Health’s companion app makes addiction treatment accessible and manageable. It lets users track treatment, access guidance, and receive support while maintaining a stigma-free, approachable experience, helping them stay engaged and confident in care.

.

Final Designs.

Treatment that feels attainable

The final designs for Oar Health emphasize clarity, warmth, and trust. Webpages use human-centered visuals and compassionate layouts, while mobile screens make key actions like medication guidance and progress tracking intuitive and seamless, reinforcing a stigma-free, approachable experience.

.

Results.

Impactful metrics.

Oar Health has helped 50,000+ patients start evidence-based treatment, with 73 % reporting reduced drinking within two weeks and 108 % year-over-year growth. By redesigning the experience to be warmer, clearer, and more approachable, my work reduced barriers, boosted early engagement, and supported the platform’s rapid growth.
